​Help on the Go began in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when schools and churches closed. Isolated at home, many students struggled with academic disengagement, depression, and social anxiety. Our high school leaders saw this happening to their younger peers and acted. They built an online platform on Zoom to offer tutoring, mentorship, and a sense of community.
 

What started as students helping students has grown into a youth-led organization. Today, high school volunteers and paid college mentors provide tutoring in math, reading, writing, science, and history. They also lead enrichment programs in STEAM (robotics, coding, drones, and engineering), art, and music, along with Science Bowl and National History Day. These are opportunities many of the families we serve could not otherwise afford.

Beyond the classroom, our young leaders serve the wider community. Through Classic4U, student musicians perform monthly birthday concerts for seniors and veterans. Project Muse, our mural team, has transformed spaces at the Community Centers. Our students also restore natural habitats. They join neighborhood beautification efforts with Shine LA, and they support meal distribution, holiday gift-wrapping, and Adopt-A-Family drives for families experiencing homelessness. Each project gives youth a chance to lead, and gives our community a neighbor who shows up.
